Alabama lumber mill closing, laying off 123, as construction market softens

A Canadian lumber company is closing one of its mills in Lanett as a softening construction market is beginning to take its toll on the industry.

The West Fraser Huguley OSB Lumber Mill in Lanett will close indefinitely beginning Jan. 2, 2027, laying off 123 employees, according to a notice on Alabama’s WARN list.
