Bessemer pre-K center temporarily shuttered over elevated mold spores in classrooms

Only weeks after Bessemer City Schools began the 2026-27 school year, students were moved out of the newly reopened Abrams Pre-K Center after elevated levels of mold spores were found in one classroom.

This year was supposed to mark the opening of the pre-K center, which is housed in a building on the same campus as J.S. Abrams Elementary School.
