Birth centers at risk of closing as Alabama Supreme Court declines to hear lawsuit

The Alabama Supreme Court has declined to hear a case on birth center regulations, a move that advocates say “has rubber-stamped state overreach.”

In January, the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals ruled that birth centers should be classified as hospitals and therefore licensed and regulated by the state health department.
