As July 4th approaches and we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, no group occupies a more revered place in our nation’s history than the Founding Fathers. For two and a half centuries, we have deferred to their wisdom on virtually every major question of governance — freedom of speech, separation of powers, checks and balances. We have carved their faces into mountains and monuments and taught their ideas to every new generation of America’s youth. But on one matter, we have ignored their counsel completely: the danger of political parties.
