The city of Irondale is accepting applications for board of education members as leadership weighs starting its own school system after years of debate.
In October 2025, the city commissioned an $85,000 study to determine if breaking away from the Jefferson County School System would be feasible. Now that the results are back, Mayor James D. Stewart Jr. said forming a school board will help the city answer remaining questions and determine its next move.
