NOTICE OF TAXIWAY A RELOCATION DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT AVAILABILITY & PUBLIC MEETING

 

Notice is hereby given that the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) has published a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed Taxiway A Relocation project. In accordance with its responsibilities under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires BHM to complete an EA. During the EA process, BHM and its airport consultant evaluated the environmental, economic, and social impacts of the proposed development. The results of the analysis are published in the Draft EA document, which is available for public review and comment through July 23, 2026, at the following locations:

In conjunction with this public review period, BHM will hold a virtual public meeting to share information on the Draft EA for the Taxiway A Relocation project and answer questions about the environmental review. The meeting will take place on July 16, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. CDT via the Microsoft Teams platform. The meeting will begin with a brief presentation followed by time for Q&A. BHM intends to undertake a project to realign, reconstruct, and widen parallel Taxiway A and associated connector taxiways; strengthen a portion of Taxiway A and its connectors, relocate or encapsulate approximately 3,200 linear feet of Village Creek; relocate portions of the vehicle service roads; and realign existing utilities. The project includes up to 0.67 acres of wetland impacts. The purpose of the proposed project is to enhance the airfield’s ability to accommodate the increasing demand for both passenger and cargo aircraft operations in a safe and efficient manner by addressing the non-standard runway to taxiway separation located on the southwest portion of Runway 6-24 and Taxiway A.
