A Mobile man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2021 killing of a retired Vietnam veteran inside his home.
Deangelo Merrill, 33, of Mobile, received the sentence by Circuit Judge Ben Brooks after a jury in June convicted him of reckless manslaughter, first-degree burglary and being a person forbidden to possess a pistol. The life-without-parole sentence stems from the first-degree burglary conviction and will run consecutively to life sentences imposed for the reckless manslaughter and pistol-possession convictions.
