Owens Cross Roads residents say ‘no’ to tax for volunteer fire department

Residents of Owens Cross Roads voted down a proposed tax increase that would have boosted funding for the city’s volunteer fire department.

The Oct. 13 referendum decided the fate of a proposed 3-mill ad valorem tax proponents said was urgently needed. City officials said the additional funds would be used to bring the fire department up to acceptable standards.
