Acclaimed Japanese rock band RADWIMPS have unveiled the official music video for “Shabadaba,” their bold, provocative new single and the theme song for the Japanese political entertainment drama “PoliticaLupin.” The new video brings the track to life through a striking visual world, a creative piece unlike any we’ve seen from the band before.

Directed by the acclaimed Masaki Watanabe, the video for “Shabadaba” unfolds in a wild abstract world reminiscent of contemporary art that fuses madness with an ironic sense of playfulness. Through a striking blend of visual imagery and creative metaphors, the video explores themes of societal dissonance and brings the song’s message to life through bold eye-catching production and a raw intense performance by the band.
When the show’s production team approached RADWIMPS with a request to create a song that would “shatter the conventional concept of a drama theme song,” frontman Yojiro Noda embraced the challenge. Channeling his own frustrations and anger into the songwriting process, Noda crafted a fierce, unapologetic track that pushes the boundaries of what audiences might expect from a television theme song. The result is a song Noda describes as “a track we can proudly say is one of the coolest we’ve ever created in our careers.”
Already attracting attention since its premiere and making an impact on streaming charts, “PoliticaLupin” continues to build momentum with each new episode. The release of “Shabadaba” arrives as anticipation surrounding the series continues to grow. Watch the drama on Netflix here.
Ahead of the single’s release, RADWIMPS brought a playful dose of political satire to Tokyo with a clever promotional stunt, unveiling posters at three subway stations in the heart of Japan’s political district: Kokkai-gijidōmae (National Diet Building), Kasumigaseki, and Nagatacho. The tongue-in-cheek campaign was a playful nod to the fictional world of “PoliticaLupin” to build intrigue around the new song.
RADWIMPS are Yojiro Noda (vo/gt/pf) and Yusuke Takeda (ba); Satoshi Yamaguchi (Dr) is currently on hiatus.
