A report released by the ACLU of Alabama found that Alabama is the most dangerous state in the nation for pregnancy and childbirth, with Black women in Alabama being three times more likely to die from pregnancy complications.
In Alabama, 43 of the state’s 64 counties have little to no access to maternity care, with most located in rural regions where populations are predominately Black and economically disadvantaged.
