Fans of the CBS daytime drama “Beyond the Gates’ might have gotten a surprise if they were at the mass voting rights event Saturday in Montgomery.
Actor Sean Freeman, a member of the large cast of the popular soap opera, was in his home state of Alabama when throngs descended on downtown Montgomery. The crowd was there to oppose state efforts to redraw congressional district lines in ways expected to benefit the Republican majority and dilute the voting strength of the Democratic minority.
