Key takeaways
- IGDetective ranks first for a dated record of who unfollowed a public account and who it unfollowed, with every unfollow verified before it is shown, a free check first, and no Instagram login.
- The Ick is the pick for alerts on a phone within the hour. Snoopreport is the cheapest way to get unfollows in a weekly report.
- No tool can show an unfollow that happened before tracking started. Instagram keeps no unfollow record for anyone to read back.
Every feud in music has a second act on Instagram: the day one artist quietly stops following another. Fans spot it hours later, screenshots go round, and by the time anyone checks the follower count the moment is gone. Instagram has never sent an unfollow notification, and the only native clue is a lower number. That gap is what an Instagram unfollow tracker fills.
Five of those trackers are compared below, using what each provider states on its own site as of October 23, 2026. Each was judged on four points: whether it watches another public account or only your own, how an unfollow is dated, what you get before paying, and the published price. IGDetective comes first because it is the only one of the five that verifies each unfollow before showing it, dates it by day, and tells you what can be tracked before you pay. This guide covers public accounts; it does not cover private accounts, which no legitimate tool can read.
How the five compare
| Tool | Whose unfollows | How an unfollow is dated | Before paying | Published price |
| IGDetective | Any public account, both directions | Verified, then dated by day | Free account check | About $1 a day, US price |
| The Ick | Any public account, both directions | Time detected, hourly checks | Free preview | $9.99 a week or $34.99 a year, US |
| Snoopreport | Accounts the tracked profile unfollows | Weekly or monthly report | None stated | From $4.99 a month, 2 accounts |
| UnfollowersTrack | Your own, plus supported public profiles | Per completed scan | Free sampled preview | $4.99 a week or $39.99 a year |
| DolphinRadar | Any public account, in weekly reports | Weekly report | Free not-following-back preview | From $2.75 a month, 1 account |
1. IGDetective
IGDetective starts with a free check. Type a public username and it shows what can be revealed for that account before you pay anything. There is no Instagram login at any point, and the account you look up gets no notification and no view.
On the paid plan, unfollows are tracked in both directions: who stopped following the account, and who the account stopped following. Every unfollow is verified before it is shown and dated by day. Tracking starts the day you add the account, because Instagram keeps no unfollow history that any tool can read back, so the sooner an account is added the more it catches. Recent follows and recent followers appear the same way, each dated the day it was first seen. Tracked accounts refresh automatically every day, you can refresh on demand, and one subscription covers up to five accounts. Plans start at about $1 a day at the US price, with monthly and weekly options and no free trial.
For your own account, IGDetective’s page suggests comparing your current followers with an older copy or with Instagram’s Download Your Information export, or simply tracking your own public account from today.
Limits: public accounts only. Very large lists cannot be tracked, and the free check says so before you pay.
2. The Ick
The Ick, by its own description, checks up to five public profiles every hour and logs each new follow and unfollow in both directions with the time it was detected, then sends a push notification. It runs as a web app and an Android app on one subscription, with iPhone users pointed at the web app. Searching a profile and seeing a first analysis is free; tracking costs $9.99 a week or $34.99 a year in the US. Its FAQ notes that it cannot show history from before you started tracking.
3. Snoopreport
Snoopreport sells weekly and monthly reports on a public account’s own actions: the posts it likes, the accounts it follows, and the accounts it unfollows. Its site says it does not list who follows the tracked account, so it covers one direction of unfollows. Plans start at $4.99 a month for two tracked accounts, advertised as $0.99 a week, with earlier history available as a paid retrospective report. Snoopreport also states that a report captures up to 75 percent of an account’s public actions.
4. UnfollowersTrack
UnfollowersTrack is built around your own account: who unfollowed you, who does not follow you back, and who engages most, from public data with no password. Its site offers a free sample preview, then $4.99 a week or $39.99 a year, and it says supported public profiles are those with no more than 20,000 followers or following. Changes are detected between completed scans.
5. DolphinRadar
DolphinRadar includes follow and unfollow tracking in its weekly Activity Analytics reports, from $2.75 a month on an annual plan for one tracked account, with no free trial on that plan. Its separate Unfollowers Tracker offers a free preview of who does not follow you back, a one-time report for $9.9, and continuous tracking from $8.9 a month. Everything is browser-based with no Instagram login, per its site.
Why Instagram stays silent
Instagram once showed what the people you follow were doing. The Following tab was removed in 2019, and nothing replaced it. Unfollows were never surfaced at all. Since September 2026, the order of a following list also carries no meaning, so even a careful observer cannot infer a recent change from where a name sits. The only way to know is to keep a record and compare, which is what every tool here does. About half of American adults use Instagram, per Pew Research Center, and not one of them gets an unfollow notice.
Three steps
- Confirm the account is public. A private account’s follower list is visible only to approved followers.
- Run the free check on IGDetective, or the free preview on The Ick or UnfollowersTrack, to see what can be tracked.
- If you want the record, start tracking now. Every tool begins on the day you add the account.
Reading an unfollow
- A dated unfollow means it happened on or before that day, not at that moment.
- Deactivated and restricted accounts can look like unfollows on some tools. IGDetective verifies each one before showing it; others may not say.
- An unfollow shows that it happened, not why.
- Never give any tracker your Instagram password. A tool for public accounts has no reason to ask.
Frequently asked questions
Can I see who unfollowed me on Instagram for free? Partly. UnfollowersTrack offers a free sample, DolphinRadar a free not-following-back preview and IGDetective a free check of what can be tracked. An ongoing dated record is paid on every tool here.
Does Instagram notify you of an unfollow? No. The follower count drops and nothing else changes.
Can a tracker show who unfollowed before I started? No, on any tool. Instagram keeps no unfollow history, so tracking starts the day you add the account.
Does this work on private accounts? No, on any tool. Private follower lists are visible only to approved followers.
Verdict
For a dated record of who unfollowed a public account and who it unfollowed, IGDetective is the pick: each unfollow is verified before it is shown, the free check tells you what is trackable, and one plan covers five accounts. The Ick suits people who want an alert on their phone within the hour, Snoopreport is the cheapest weekly report, UnfollowersTrack is the simplest check of your own audience, and DolphinRadar is a sound report-based alternative.
