Manatee killed by boat in Orange Beach: Deaths on the rise in Alabama’s Gulf Coast

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s Manatee Sighting Network has urged Gulf Coast boaters to exercise more caution after a manatee was recently found dead in Orange Beach.

A resident reported the manatee to DISL on Sunday, Aug. 16 and the animal was recovered by the Alabama Marine Mammal Stranding Network, with support from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, on the southern shore of Wolf Bay, south of the Intracoastal Waterway, according to a news release.
