2. Crown (featuring Naima Adams)
3. Strange Light
4. Divide

Through his trailblazing career as an award-winning lyricist, visual artist and filmmaker, Nadeem Din-Gabisi cemented his unique voice as one of the most thought-provoking new artists to emerge from the UK in recent years. Born in London to Sierra-Leonian parents, Nadeem’s work wrestles with notions of identity, displacement, trauma and struggle, and has seen him gain support from the likes of Somerset House, Pitchfork, Nataal and Guap Magazine, and receive the Nicholas Daley x Fred Perry Music Award 2021. Having initially established himself as a lyricist as part of the heralded Steamdown Collective, he has since gone on to collaborate with artists such as Sampa The Great and Metronomy. Following the release of his lauded debut LP OFFSHORE via Moshi Moshi Records in 2025, he returns with the new EP Commoner’s Coronation.

Produced by Morwell and featuring guest vocals from Naima Adams, the four tracks on Commoner’s Coronation represent some of Nadeem’s most compelling work to date. His distinctive vocal delivery moves effortlessly through Morwell’s adventurous electronic production, which draws on everything from industrial glitches and distorted synths to warm, soulful piano chords.

Across the EP, Nadeem continues to explore the themes that have long informed his work — history, identity, displacement, belonging and trauma — weaving personal experiences into wider reflections on power, inequality and the increasingly fractured state of the world.

Opening track “Plane” explores the displacement of African peoples and the complicated search for home, while “Crown” tells the story of a soldier struggling to survive, using their journey to question traditional structures of power and wealth and imagine a world in which resources are shared rather than controlled by the few. On “Strange Light,” Nadeem turns inward, reflecting on grief, trauma and the unexpected moments of clarity that can emerge from personal loss. Closing track “Divide” confronts the overwhelming realities of war, climate disaster and inequality, but ultimately finds a measure of hope in the power of human connection and the small things we can change.

Throughout, Morwell’s restless, constantly shifting production provides a striking backdrop to Nadeem’s lyricism, moving between moments of abrasive intensity and unexpected warmth. The result is a record that feels both deeply personal and politically charged, capturing the contradictions, frustrations and occasional moments of hope that come with navigating the modern world.
