This total pushes cumulative adult-use retail sales past $4.1 billion since the state’s first licensed dispensary opened in December 2022. Read more about New York’s cannabis market expansion.
The growth came quarter by quarter. Retailers recorded $421 million in the first quarter, $479.9 million in the second and a record $512.6 million in the third.
This third-quarter figure surpassed the previous quarterly high of $503.7 million, set in the final quarter of 2025. The state now ranks third nationally in adult-use retail sales, according to the state.
The number of stores contributing to these sales has also increased. New York counts 744 licensed adult-use dispensaries open and operating statewide.
Licensing has outpaced store openings. The state has issued 1,039 adult-use retail licenses in total, which means a share of license holders are approved but not yet open for business.
Across every license type, 2,351 cannabis licenses have been issued statewide. Of the adult-use licenses, 56 percent have gone to Social and Economic Equity applicants, the state’s program for widening who gets to own a place in the market.
“Reaching $4.1 billion in cannabis sales is an extraordinary milestone for New York, but the real story is the people and businesses behind that number,” said John Kagia, executive director of the New York State Office of Cannabis Management.
A portion of the revenue is being redirected to state programs. New York has allocated $35 million through its Community Grants Reinvestment Fund, which directs cannabis revenue into communities across the state.
As three quarters are completed and the retail network expands, the fourth quarter will determine how much the state’s licensed market exceeds the $4 billion mark.
