Bronx-born, Atlanta-based artist Reiyo The Giant releases her debut album, Trick Of The Night, via Safari Riot. The record weaves soul, ambient and electronic sounds through hypnotic synths, spacious production and cinematic textures, capturing Reiyo’s evolution as both an artist and a person. Across the album, she transforms years marked by love, loss and change into a world distinctly her own. The album arrives on the heels of a recent sync placement for its title track, “Trick of the Night,” in Tyler Perry’s The Gospel of Christmas. Stream the album here.

“Reiyo The Giant is a beautiful anomaly who doesn’t fit into any box you try to build for her.” — VICE
“[Reiyo The Giant] uses atmosphere, metaphor, and an instinct for world-building to make room for experiences that resist easy explanations.” — KALTBLUT
Imagined as a journey through a familiar house where something always feels slightly out of place, Trick Of The Night explores how loss, fear and memory can alter our perception of even the things we know best. Reiyo approached the album’s sequencing as a hero’s journey, opening with the electronic-driven “Nu World” before moving deeper into more intimate, reflective territory and ultimately closing with “Lullaby,” a moment of rest after the journey. Drawing on what she describes as a “reverse Wizard of Oz moment,” Reiyo envisioned the album beginning in vivid color before gradually fading into something more muted, disorienting and only vaguely recognizable.
“This album represents a commitment to myself and the life I had to experience in order to live and write each song,” Reiyo shares. “As my debut, it feels indicative of my journey, my sound and my ability to honor every version of myself that has loved, grieved and moved through the discomfort of trying to figure it all out.”
That journey toward her sound has unfolded across years of experimentation. On Trick Of The Night, Reiyo worked closely with producer Anwar Sawyer, who helped shape the album’s ambient, spacious and mood-driven sound, while breathe. produced album cuts “Get It Together” and “Lullaby.” Since releasing her self-produced 2021 EP, Romeo, she has increasingly explored electronic territory through collaborations with producers including Airmow on “CARMEN,” which has surpassed 15 million streams, and breathe. on “You Saw Me.” Her music has earned placements on Spotify’s New Music Friday and Fresh Finds, alongside Apple Music’s New Music Daily, with support from VICE, Ones To Watch, NOTION, KALTBLUT, Sweety High, The Luna Collective, and more.
With Trick Of The Night, those threads come together in Reiyo’s most fully realized world yet: a cinematic, ever-shifting debut that embraces the uncertainty of growing up, the ways experience can reshape our perspective and the strange feeling of looking at something familiar only to realize it no longer looks quite the same.
