The Last Showgirl EP Michael Clofine teams with writer-director Stephen Meier, Silverleaf Media Group and costume designer Christian Cowan on DEBUTANTES. The feature, starring Ruby Snowber (Scary Movie 6), slated for an early 2027 release, brazenly tackles Gen Z sexual assault, privilege, complicity, female empowerment and revenge.

DEBUTANTES is this generation’s Heathers – a daring Yellowjackets meets Blink Twice dark comedic horror thriller where a group of southern debutantes seek retribution for one of their own on the night of their big gala.
Ensemble cast is led by Ruby Snowber (Scary Movie 6), Samantha Lorraine (Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado), Daniella Tayler (Grown-ish), Paris Berelc (Tall Girl, The Crew), Heidi Engerman (Ransom Canyon), and Gabriella Palminteri (daughter of iconic screen veteran Chazz Palminteri).
The film’s core narrative echoes the deep-seated outrage expressed in recent national conversations around sexual assault on college campuses. It asks an uncomfortable and timely question: What happens when the legal system fails a victim of rape, and those who are complicit are finally forced to pay a price they never saw coming?
Explains EP Michael Clofine, “What drew me to The Last Showgirl and what drew me to Debutantes is the same instinct; stories about women that the culture tends to look past. Showgirl (Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis) was about a woman society had decided was finished. Debutantes is about young women society expects to stay polished and quiet.”
Costumes for DEBUTANTES are exclusively designed by Christian Cowan who has famously dressed Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Zendaya, Jenna Ortega, Sydney Sweeney and Cardi B. Cowan is also an EP on the film.
“I’ve always believed fashion should be a form of joy, self-expression, and even therapy—something that makes people feel powerful and celebrated,” says Cowan. “Debutantes is the first feature I’ve designed end-to-end, and it was an incredible opportunity to bring that philosophy to these young women. Their world is full of high-society glamour, pageantry, and ritual, but underneath it is something much sharper and more defiant. I wanted the costumes to feel joyful and bold—full texture, feathers, and sparkle—while still reflecting the strength and retribution these characters claim for themselves.”
For writer-director Stephen Meier, DEBUTANTES is intensely personal. Meier penned the script to process the anger and profound trauma he felt following the sexual assault of an ex-girlfriend by a powerful individual who evaded justice.
“When Stephen first presented the script to me,” shares Silverleaf Media Group’s Mitchell Kaye, “I quickly understood the passion and motivation for seeing this project across the finish line. By wrapping this meaningful message into an exciting and suspenseful film, I hoped we would be able to impact the very people who need to be having this tough conversation. It was easy to convince people to invest in this vision with us.”
Silverleaf Media Group co-founder and co-executive producer Steve Eckert echoes, “We project strong generational resonance. Our premier IP, Debutantes is built as a glossy, violent, meme-ready YA ensemble that speaks directly to Gen Z and Millennial viewers while crossing into adult audiences.”
DEBUTANTES is the flagship production and IP of Silverleaf Media Group —founded by co-executive producers Steve Eckert and Mitchell Kaye, and writer/director/producer Stephen Meier. The production company is dedicated to producing meaningful content that inspires and sparks conversation.
Writer/director Stephen Meier, alongside Silverleaf Media Group’s co-executive producers Steve Eckert and Mitchell Kaye, will be introducing the project to buyers at the American Film Market (AFM) this month.
